A Unique Gift ~ Infinity Scarf Pattern

Each one of us has a unique gift that we need to find.
We need to find it so that we can use it to help others. :)
I have met so many people in my life, and at first look they might not seem to special. Yet despite that they've always surprised and inspired me with their unique gift! A gift they have and use in a way that no one else can... So since I've been so inspired to be unique, I thought I'd share the pattern for this scarf, since it helps to remind me that everyone is special and unique! 

  
What You'll Need:
10.00 Crochet Hook
4 Skeins of 100g 8ply Yarn {You probably won't use up all 4 skeins, but it's better to be safe and have enough of the same colour to finish it}
Wool/Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Finished Size:
Roughly 65 inches around and 8 inches wide.
{Note: This all depends on how loosely or tightly you crochet.}

Pattern:
Start of by making a Slip Knot and crocheting 151 Chain Stitches using 2 strands of yarn. 
 
Row 1~ Chain up 1 still using 2 strands of yarn, crochet 2 Single Crochets in the next 2 stitches. *Skip 3 chains/stitches then crochet 7 Double Crochets in the next stitch. Skip 3 chains/stitches then crochet 1 single crochet into each of the following 3 chains.* Repeat from the * all across, making sure to end with 1 single crochets in the last 2 chains.

Row 2~ Chain up 2, crochet 4 Double Crochets Together. This video below should help explain what this means. 

After you've crochet 4 double crochets together, *Chain 3, then crochet 1 single crochet into each of  the next 3 stitches, chain 3. Now crochet 7 Double Crochets Together.*


Repeat from the * all across, making sure to end with 4 Double Crochets Together.

Row 3~  Chain 2, then crochet 4 double crochets into stitch consisting of 4 Double Crochets Together. *Skip chain 3 space, then crochet 1 single crochet into each of the following 3 stitches. Skip chain 3 space, crochet 7 double crochets into stitch consisting of  7 Double Crochets Together. Repeat from * across, Making sure to end with 4 double crochets in stitch consisting of 4 Double Crochets Together.

Row 4~ Chain 1. Crochet 2 single crochets. *Chain 3, then crochet  7 Double Crochets Together. Chain 3, crochet 1 single crochet into each of the following 3 stitches* Repeat from the * across, making sure to end with 1 single crochet into each of the last 2 stitches.

Now you need to repeat rows 1-4, 1 more time. Then repeat only row 1-2. But do NOT bind off.


When you've completed all the rows, connect the two ends of the scarf together to create a circle (thus a circle scarf) and Slip Stitch them together.
Fasten off, and weave in ends.

  4. Hey,
    so i dont know if this is normal but I just did rows 1,2&3 and the scarf is very very wavy. doesnt lay fat at all.. normal?

    1. It is a bit wavy, which gives it texture :) But if it's extremely wavy your tension might be a bit too tight.

    4. I think this is the Catherine Wheel stitch. Or very similar. When you Google "Catherine Wheel stitch" some very helpful YouTube videos will appear.

    I am starting to make the scarf! Only thing is I am confused on row 3... What do you mean by " *Skip chain 3 space". Does that mean skip 1st space, chain 3? Please let me know, thank you.

  12. I had trouble with row three too, but in the comments section this: "When you crochet 7 double crochets together, it forms 1 stitch. In the following round you need to crochet 7 double crochets into that 1 stitch formed by 7 double crochets together. :)" really helped! So the seven crochets go into one stitch....I'm not sure if there is a better way to write that in the directions?

  15. What a gorgeous pattern! Is it written in American or English terms? I really hope my 9.0 hook with really loose tension would do the trick, because I can't seem to find any 10.0 hooks. Oh well. :)

      I'm sure that a 9.00 crochet hook will work just as well, though you might want to add an extra 10 or 20 chains when you start instead of just the 151 chains.

  16. Row 3 ends with 4DCTOG. I can not start 4 , it makes no sense to me. The edge is not straight but rounded. Is it possible that ros 3 ended incorrectly?

    1. When I created this pattern, yes there were rounded edges as I worked on it, but it's like a jigsaw puzzle. Each row fit's into the gaps of the previous row.

  17. I'm having trouble with the second row...after the chain 3 which stitch are you supposed to single crochet into? Should you skip three stitches or go into the stitch right after the 4 double crochets together?

  22. I think perhaps you left something out. If this is an "infinity" scarf, then it should be twisted 1/2 turn before you sew the ends together. Otherwise you just have a circle, which of course is not an infinity scarf.

  27. Is there an exact number of how many stitches there should be when starting each row? I did row one successfully and immediately realized I had no idea where to grab from with my needle for the next row! Lol help! Do I play it by ear?

  29. I'm sort of confused on row 2. You say "Repeat from the * all across, making sure to end with 4dctog." But the * is placed at "*ch 3 then crochet 1 sc into each of the next 3 stitches, ch 3. Now crochet 7dctog." To me this says I am only ever doing the 7dctog and never doing the 4dctog...please clarify!

    1. That's because After you chain up 2, you will have 152 stitches.

      4dctog
      *star to star takes up 16 stitches each time (3+3+3+7=16), and you will do that 9 times*
      You will have 4 stitches left over
      4 dctog

      so 4+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+16+4=152

  30. i have the same question that "crnhayes" had, (and i couldn't find your reply to the question)...if it is an infinity scarf, isn't it supposed to be twisted before the ends are joined together? your photos look as though yours was twisted first, but you don't say so in your instructions. could you please clarify this for me?

  32. I'm struggling a bit with which yarn to use. I can't find anything that says it is 8ply. Closest was 6, but that seems way bulkier than what you used in the picture.

    1. You can use any bulky yarn, but then you just use 1 strand instead of 2 :)

    2. Alrighty. It just doesn't look right to me. It's like... really wavy and ruffly. I'm afraid I may not be doing it right, but I'm not sure where exactly I'm going wrong.     I love this pattern and it is very easy to understand. I did rows 1-4 and am now starting back on row 1 again and it just doesn't seem to "fit" with row 4...? am I doing something wrong? When I do the 2 single crochets then skip 3 then do the 7 couble crochets when I go to do the next part its half on the chain 3 from row 4. Is that right? it just looks wrong to me

      That sounds right to me. This scarf has a way of tricking you, on one row you think you've stuffed it up and on the next it looks amazing! Just keep going and see if it looks better then :)

      After you've crocheted 3 single crochets, you need to chain 3. Then you need to make your 7double crochets together in the hole or loop where the clumps of double crochets in the previous row where gathered. In the video How To: Crochet 7 Double Crochets together I show this, maybe if you watch t closely you'll understand what I mean :)

    OMGosh... I am reuniting myself with the Art of Crochet again... after some forty years. I am having so much fun... and loving your blog... found you on AllFreeCrochet... (I think... I've been surfin' the web so much)
    OKay...
    I finally got to the end of row one, correctly, on my third try (aka "the charm")
    What I found I was doing wrong was... when I put 7dc in one st... next came "skip 3" which is where I made my mistake all the way across... you see... the first skipped stitch blends into the stitch holding the seven dc's... so... I was actually skipping 4... !!! YaY !!! once I figured out MY ERROR ... I have now had success...
    Now to row two...

    Ugh... you are going to giggle at this... so I moved onto row 3... I kept trying to crochet 7dgtog into the 7dctog... and after an hour or more I realized "Valerie ~ You can't read, can you" your direction is to crochet 7dc into the 7dctog hole. I am loving the learning I am grasping with this project... once again... success and it's looking good... : )

  46. Hello, on row 2 i was not using the stitches from the 7 double chains and skipping 3 stitches after, is this right? I ended up with 4 dc at the very end but just wanted to make sure im doing it right before i move on to row 3.

    1. What I mean is you'll be using 2 skeins at once, side by side. So You'll be crocheting with 1 strand from each skein at all times, thus you'll be crocheting with 2 strands through the entire project :)
